Client: Co-op Procurement: Design & Build Services: Mechanical, Electrical & Low Carbon Consultancy CDMM delivered full M&E and low carbon design services for a new industrial chiller facility at the Co-op distribution centre in Dalcross, Inverness. The project supports temperature-controlled food storage operations, with a strong emphasis on energy performance, coordination, and operational efficiency. The facility was designed using a BIM Level 2 approach, with full delivery in Revit to ensure accurate coordination across all disciplines. Particular focus was placed on integrating building services within a highly constrained environment, including detailed coordination with specialist racking systems and associated layouts. Energy modelling and TM54 analysis were undertaken to evaluate operational performance, particularly in relation to large-scale chiller systems. This informed a design approach focused on reducing energy demand while maintaining strict temperature control requirements critical to food storage. Lighting design was carefully coordinated with the racking layout to ensure appropriate illumination levels throughout, supporting safe and efficient operations while avoiding conflicts with storage systems. Working closely with the Contractor and wider project design team, CDMM ensured a coordinated, buildable design aligned with programme and operational requirements. Our proactive approach to coordination and performance modelling contributed to the successful delivery of a high-efficiency, fully integrated chilled storage facility.
