CDMM were appointed as Mechanical, Electrical and Low Carbon Consultants for the new Gaelic School in Fort William, delivered on behalf of Highland Council under a Design & Build contract with a Tier 1 Contractor. The project focused on delivering a high-performance, low-carbon educational facility aligned with current best practice and statutory guidance. The building incorporates a biomass boiler system to provide a sustainable heat source, reducing operational carbon emissions and supporting the Council’s environmental objectives. A Passivent natural ventilation strategy was implemented within classroom areas, providing a low-energy solution to maintain indoor air quality and occupant comfort, while minimising reliance on mechanical systems. All mechanical and electrical systems were designed in accordance with BB101, ensuring compliance with ventilation, thermal comfort, and indoor environmental quality standards required for educational buildings. CDMM worked collaboratively with the contractor and wider design team to deliver a coordinated and efficient design, supporting both programme and sustainability goals.
