Client: Highland Council Services: Mechanical, Electrical & Low Carbon Consultancy CDMM were appointed as Mechanical, Electrical and Low Carbon Consultants for the Kinmylies Early Learning & Childcare facility in Inverness, delivered on behalf of Highland Council. The project was developed in response to a robust client energy brief from the Highland Council Energy Team, with a strong emphasis on operational efficiency, low-carbon performance, and compliance with defined energy targets for public sector education buildings. CDMM undertook detailed energy modelling and TM54 operational energy analysis to assess predicted in use performance, providing the Client with a clear understanding of energy demand and carbon implications. This supported informed design development and alignment with wider public sector decarbonisation objectives. The building services strategy incorporated air source heat pump (ASHP) technology as the primary heating solution, supported by efficient LED lighting systems with intelligent controls to optimise energy use. Specialist access control and safeguarding systems were also integrated, designed specifically to suit early years occupancy requirements, ensuring a safe and secure environment for young children. Working as part of a Design & Build team alongside a Tier 1 Contractor, CDMM provided coordinated mechanical and electrical design services through construction, ensuring compliance with performance requirements, buildability, and programme constraints. The result is a modern, energy-efficient early years facility that combines low-carbon technologies with carefully considered building services design, delivering a safe, comfortable, and sustainable learning environment for children and staff.
