Client: NHS Highland Services: Building Services Engineering BIM Level: 2 CDMM were appointed as Building Services Engineers for the refurbishment and extension of the Maternity Unit at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, delivered with a Tier 1 Contractor on a Design and Build basis on behalf of NHS Highland. The project comprised significant refurbishment works alongside a new extension within a fully operational acute hospital environment. The live nature of the facility required detailed planning, robust phasing strategies, and close coordination to ensure continuity of critical clinical services throughout construction. Working as part of a multidisciplinary design team including NHS Highland Estates, architects, and structural engineers CDMM delivered fully coordinated Building Services design in compliance with BIM Level 2 standards. Digital coordination played a key role in ensuring efficient integration of new and existing systems within a complex, constrained environment. A critical aspect of the project was the seamless integration of new electrical and mechanical systems with the existing hospital infrastructure. CDMM developed detailed design solutions and coordinated interfaces to ensure reliable system performance and compatibility with legacy services. Maintaining uninterrupted electrical and essential services to the live maternity unit and surrounding hospital departments was a key priority. CDMM developed comprehensive phasing, temporary supply, and changeover strategies, including staged isolations and carefully sequenced works, to ensure clinical operations were not disrupted. The project demonstrates CDMM’s experience in delivering complex healthcare infrastructure upgrades within live operational environments, with a strong focus on resilience, safety, and continuity of care. The project is currently partially complete and on hold.
