Client: Highland Council Services: Mechanical, Electrical & Low Carbon Consultancy CDMM (UK) were appointed as Mechanical, Electrical and Low Carbon Consultants for the refurbishment of Inverness Town House, a prominent civic and heritage building in the heart of the city, delivered on behalf of Highland Council. The project involved significant upgrades and alterations to the existing building services infrastructure within a sensitive, occupied public building environment. Works were carefully planned and phased to ensure continued public access and uninterrupted civic functions throughout the construction period. A key aspect of the scheme was the design of highly bespoke lighting solutions, including specialist illumination to enhance and protect the building’s historic stained glass features. Lighting design was carefully developed to balance visual impact, conservation requirements, and energy efficiency. The project also included complex external services upgrades, including a challenging kitchen extract system designed to integrate discreetly within the constraints of the historic fabric and prominent city centre location. Extensive alterations were made to mechanical and electrical systems throughout the building, requiring careful coordination to navigate existing constraints while improving performance, compliance, and reliability. Working within a live, occupied civic building, CDMM developed detailed phasing and temporary service strategies to ensure continuity of operation, minimise disruption, and maintain safety for both occupants and the public. The result is a sensitively upgraded civic landmark that preserves its heritage character while delivering modern, efficient, and compliant building services.
