CDMM delivered mechanical, electrical and low carbon engineering design for the award-winning redevelopment of Hope Lodge and Shepherds, a unique Highland estate project combining the sensitive refurbishment of heritage buildings with the creation of high-end contemporary accommodation. The development extends across multiple buildings distributed throughout a remote estate, requiring the design and coordination of an extensive private water distribution network together with a site-wide renewable energy strategy. A remote subterranean energy centre provides district biomass heating to the wider development, while a ground source heat pump serves one of the estate's more isolated buildings. Integrating these intelligent, low-carbon systems within heritage properties required careful consideration to preserve architectural character while delivering modern standards of comfort and performance. Working within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) presented significant environmental and logistical challenges. Construction was carefully phased to accommodate ecological constraints and operational requirements, demanding close collaboration between the project team throughout the design and construction process. The project involved extensive coordination with a multidisciplinary team including international interior designers, landscape architects, ecologists, fire engineers, acousticians and the wider consultant team. Careful integration of building services ensured that technical, architectural and environmental aspirations were achieved without compromising the exceptional quality of the development. The completed project demonstrated CDMM's expertise in delivering innovative, sustainable engineering solutions within some of Scotland's most sensitive landscapes, successfully combining renewable technologies, heritage conservation and contemporary luxury to create an award-winning destination.
